In a concerning incident on Sunday, 30 people were hospitalized due to food poisoning after consuming meals at two restaurants in Varkala, Thiruvananthapuram. The affected individuals sought treatment at Varkala's taluk hospital and Sivagiri Sree Narayana Guru Mission Hospital. Though none of the victims are in critical condition, they remain under medical observation.

Details of the Incident
The affected restaurants, New Spicy Multi-cuisine Foodbay and its sister concern Elephant Eatery, are located on Temple Road near Varkala taluk hospital. A total of 22 people were admitted to the taluk hospital, while eight others were admitted to Sivagiri Hospital. Hospital sources have confirmed that while the victims remain symptomatic, their conditions are stable and they are expected to be discharged within two to three days. This is the second reported case of food poisoning from New Spicy Multi-cuisine Foodbay, the first having occurred in March of this year, affecting nearly 100 people. Food Safety Action and Investigation
In response to the food poisoning cases, the Food Safety Department swiftly sealed both restaurants. Samples of the food were collected and sent for laboratory testing, with results expected within five days. Authorities will likely take further action based on the lab findings, and the restaurants could face strict penalties for endangering public health.

Public Health Concerns
Food poisoning remains a serious concern, especially when restaurants fail to maintain hygiene standards despite previous warnings. Public health experts stress that repeat offenses like this show a lack of accountability and oversight. Food safety regulations are essential to protect consumers and ensure that incidents like these are prevented in the future.

Conclusion
The Varkala food poisoning incident underscores the importance of maintaining strict food safety standards, particularly in establishments with a history of violations. As the affected individuals recover, authorities must ensure that restaurants comply with safety regulations to avoid future health risks to the public.
